We’ve been looking forward to the fourth month of 2020 for quite some time because it’s an entire month of 4/20. Unfortunately, current events (the outbreak of COVID-19) are shaping the way we’ll be able to celebrate. Don’t worry, though, all is not lost! There are still ways to practice safe social distancing while also making the most of the 4/20 holiday. Join us as we appreciate the history of this day and prepare to enjoy the celebration in a unique way this year.

What Is 420?

At this point, 4/20 is an international holiday for cannabis enthusiasts. 420 has also become synonymous with cannabis. You might hear of 420-friendly businesses and other references to this number as another way to talk about cannabis. This particular slang goes all the way back to a group of high school students in California, who began using 420 as a way to talk about their cannabis sessions without parents and teachers catching on.

What Does 420 Mean?

There are a few different rumors about the origins of 420. Some people have said the high school students who coined this term used to meet at 4:20, while others think 420 was the street address of their favorite smoking spot. Either way, the Grateful Dead caught onto the term and catapulted it into international fame. The rest is history. This number has a special place in the cannabis community, and 4/20 is a global celebration all over the globe.

420 Activities During Social Distancing

Colorado is right at the epicenter of the 420 community, and there are normally a lot of gatherings throughout the state on 4/20 every year. Typical events include things like events and festivals, but the celebration will be a little bit different this year. The responsible thing for everyone to do is to stay at home and practice social distancing, but there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the big day. Here are five things everyone can do to have a safe and pleasant holiday.

1 – Watch a Cannabis Documentary

The cannabis industry is growing at an incredible rate thanks to the end of the prohibition in progressive places like Colorado. As a result, we know more about cannabis than ever before, which makes this a good time to brush up on your knowledge. Find a cannabis documentary on the streaming platform of your choice, cozy up with your favorite strain, and prepare to learn about this amazing plant. You can learn about the history of cannabis, how laws are changing, and some of the science behind how it creates the experiences it does.

2 – Live Video Session With Friends

If you’re a social smoker, you might feel a little bit blue because you can’t enjoy the green with your friends this year. The good news is that there are still ways you can socialize and have a group experience. Get your friends together on a video app like Zoom, Facebook Live, Google Hangouts, or Facetime to have a virtual session together. You can catch up with one another, fill your friends in on everything you just learned from a cannabis documentary, and exchange information on any new strains you’ve encountered recently.

3 – Have a Movie Marathon

There are lots of great ways to pass the time when you’re quarantined in your home, but watching movies is one of our standbys. Throw on one of your favorite stoner comedies for some levity and a mental break after watching a documentary or listening to a podcast. If you’ve been feeling the need for some excitement in recent times, you may be able to get the blood pumping with a thriller or a horror movie. Whether you’re crossing new titles off of your to-watch list or enjoying old classics, your streaming service or DVD collection can be a big help when it comes to enjoying 4/20 during the COVID-19 outbreak.

4 – Brush up on Colorado’s Newest Cannabis Laws

Progressive litigation in Colorado is one of the biggest reasons this state is such a stronghold for the cannabis community. New cannabis laws are even making it possible for your favorite cannabis dispensary to deliver straight to your home in the near future. This is a great time to familiarize yourself with new regulations, and the idea of cannabis delivery is especially exciting in times like these.

5 – Order Your 4/20 Needs Online

The best cannabis dispensaries in Colorado are responding quickly to continue providing an excellent shopping experience for customers. As a family-owned business, we at Chronic Therapy feel a strong duty to provide good service to our community. As we learn more about COVID-19, we are taking continuous steps to safeguard the health and safety of our employees and customers. By following all CDC and CDPHE guidelines and relying on online ordering, we’re able to continue operations while encouraging social distancing.

If you’re unable to complete your order online, you can call us or visit us in person to use the other ordering practices we’ve put in place. Our efforts allow us to reduce the number of budtenders in the building and help encourage our customers to practice safe social distancing. Our receptionist keeps the flow moving while also working to ensure that customers stay six feet apart for safety reasons.

Sanitation is also a top priority. We regularly sterilize our surfaces, change our gloves regularly, and wash our hands effectively. Employees are monitoring their health carefully and have been instructed not to come in if they have any reason to believe they’re sick. As another precautionary measure, we’re avoiding any handling of our products by customers before a purchase– our staff will simply hand you whatever you need.

Our Cortez dispensary is completing all transactions at the walk-up order window. You can order online, by phone, or in person. Either way, you can remain in your car for the entire duration of the transaction. In Wheat Ridge, we’ve established three service windows on the front of the building to facilitate ordering and pickup. We’ve marked the platform outside of these windows to help establish social distancing in the event that there’s a line when you come to pick up your 4/20 supplies.
