Up In Smoke
Actually, any of Cheech & Chong’s films are geared to watch while high, man. They pretty much invented the genre! Up In Smoke started the whole bong blazing. Here’s a synopsis: Anthony Stoner (Chong) is a ne’er-do-well amateur drummer and pot smoker who escapes the watchful eye of his hard-ass parents and takes off on a road trip to find himself, fame, and of course, more pot. He crosses paths with Pedro de Pacas (Cheech), a true kindred soul. They get arrested for drug possession but are released on a technicality. They continue on their smoke-hazed way, finally participating in a rock band contest where they perform their crazy tune “Earache My Eye.”
The Big Lebowski
Jeff Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) insists on being referred to as “The Dude” – he’s a happy-go-lucky, laid back, bowling team burnout whose teammates include John Goodman and Steve Buscemi. Unfortunately, The Dude has the misfortune of sharing the same name with a millionaire whose wife is into the mob and other dangerous people for a ton of money. One misunderstanding after another lands him smack in the middle of the L.A. underworld.
Dude, Where’s My Car?
Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott play party-hearty pals who had such an awesome time last night they totally lost track of their car (also, check out an early film performance by Jennifer Garner!). The next day they set out to retrace their steps to try to find it, and chaotic comedy misadventures result!
The Gods Must Be Crazy
An African tribal community enjoys a quiet, peaceful life until a Coca-Cola bottle falls from a plane and villagers begin fighting over the “sacred object from the gods.” The leader sets out on a quest to return the object to the gods and restore peace. Along the way he encounters a bumbling scientist and a group of guerrilla fighters.
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
This one is best enjoyed baked – just like all the Monty Python films. In it, King Arthur and his knights (or ka-nig-its) have never been portrayed as more bumbling and hysterical. The “killer rabbit” scene alone is priceless. Get a couple of coconut shells and gallop along with the fellows in the film that later evolved into the crazy Broadway musical Spamalot.
Being John Malkovich
Dark, weird, extremely funny and more than a bit mind-boggling when high, this film is one-of-a-kind. Craig, a puppeteer (John Cusack) takes a temp job to make a steady income, but stumbles upon a big secret: nothing short of a mystical gateway through which one can enter the body and consciousness of John Malkovich (playing himself, of course). Tickets are sold and the money is good, until Craig decides he wants more. Cameron Diaz is almost unrecognizable and brilliant, as is Catherine Keener. Bizarrely unique, you’re in store for lots of laughs and head shaking with this film.
Young Frankenstein
This hysterical classic comedy updates the old story of a mad scientist reanimating a large, dead creature (amazing portrayal by Peter Boyle of Everybody Loves Raymond fame) who accidentally receives an abnormal brain, thanks to goofy assistant Igor (wild-eyed Marty Feldman). Gene Wilder, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, and the impeccably cast Frau Blucher (Cloris Leachman) are all at the top of their comedy game in this crazily entertaining cult classic.
Dazed and Confused
Matthew McConaughey rates it, “All right, all right, all right” (and that quote comes from this movie). It’s 1976 and on the last day of the high school year, trouble-making teens set out to attend a kegger. Ben Affleck plays the ultimate dickwad who loves to torture incoming freshmen. This particular movie was written and directed by film genius Richard Linklater.
Animal House
John Belushi is at his devilish comedic best as a toga-wearing, beer-can crushing, leering-at-all-things-female maniac frat brother! Delta Tau Chi’s charter is in danger of being revoked due to horrible academic scores and even more deplorable behavior. Debonair Tim Matheson beds all the girls he wants, including the dean’s wife as the brothers rally to keep DTC alive and well. Food fight!
Pineapple Express
Seth Rogan is Dale Denton, a stoner who accidentally witnesses a murder and drops his roach at the crime scene. His dealer, James Franco, sold the designer weed to him and the two go on the run from a drug lord, crooked cop and others as hilarity ensues.
